OIG Case No. 04-003

OIG opened an investigation into allegations that a Department employee was sleeping on the job during work hours.  The investigation determined that the employee was working full time as a contract employee for the Department during the day and full time as a regular Department employee at night.  The investigation determined that the employee was absent without leave from his regular Department duties for a total of 502 hours from January 2002 until May 2003.  OIG referred the matter to the Bureau of Human Resources (HR) for adjudication.

On April 12, 2006, HR issued its final disposition, and as a result the employee received a 60-day suspension and was assessed a total of $13,292.40 in restitution for salary paid to him during his absences.
